This page is to collect ideas and activities that schools can use in Queens Park.
To help you plan here is a map, with grid or without grid and history of the park.
for photographs of the play areas please look in the pages and files; all of the images there at the moment were taken on friday 13th Jan when colleagues met science staff from MMU, orienteering clubs, and outdoor education risk officers to help plan activities.
Jan Wright kindly colated some ideas on http://www.queensparkcrewe.com/
which has maps and photos for you to use
Maths trails designed by children for children with guidance from teachers. If the students were signed up as STEM Leaders this activity would count towards the award and could be added to students portfolio. (The award is on 3 levels Primary Secondary and Advanced more details can be found at www.leadersward.com)
One idea that came up was to organise activities by subject and season. for example Maths in Winter could focus on fibonacci patterns in trees, as the branches are easier to see, and in summer on flower patterns.
With a high number of children with English as an Additional Language (EAL) in Crewe we could put on training for school staff actually in the park
Susan Briggs can host "Practical Language Acquisition; its a Walk in the Park2. this would build on the evidence that language is best developed trhough strong experiences, rather than in abstract class lessons.
We were happy to welcome Tim Prevett, who was invited to meet the request of one primary school for literacy stimulus of ghost stories about the two gate houses. We look forward to hearing these! If you email your suggestions i will put them in the relevant box. Do you think we need to differentiate just by phase or year group

Mr Jan Wright MD operates a couple of websites where you can find history and pictures of the park: He also does Computer Services! I suggest we use his website http://www.queensparkcrewe.com to place activities. I will speak to jan to see if it is easier to collate them on this site, and then transfer them over or to go direct to him

I am keen to highlight not just ghosts, but wider history. I am a competent historical researcher (this is my 1st book: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Roads-Trackways-North-Wales-Prevett/dp/1843064200 )
1) A general history trail, pictures past and present - spotting changes
2) Extending to relgious studies - comparative studies on religious / cultural aspects: beliefs in spirits, life (or not) after death. My degree is in theology, and I trained to be a minister. Using life and death in nature in the park, its decay and regeneration in terms of its fabric, natural cycle etc to be illustrative of different beliefs.
3) The Bandstand - bats too if looking for creepy things
4) The Webb Orphanage is just across the road from the park - a very historic building with much that could be linked in.
I blog for Heritage Open Days http://www.heritageopendays.org.uk/blog/author/8312/ and Trinity Mirror Newspapers http://www.dailypost.co.uk/leisure/the_unexplained/ (The Crewe Chronicle, The Chester Chronicle, The Ellesmere Port Pioneer, The Flintshire Chronicle and The North Wales Daily Post) and would be very happy to use those, and my RedShift Radio show to promote the history and culture of the Park, where relevant.
